The city of Ft. Myers sits on the south bank of the Caloosahatchee River. Incorporated 1886, this city’s name memorializes General Abraham Charles Myers, a distinguished officer in the United States Army. The city began development at the end of the 19th Century, through the initiative of Stafford C. Cleveland, a New York newspaperman.
Fort Myers was the winter home of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. The Edison Home was donated to the city in 1947 and tours are open to the public. Each year there is The Edison Festival of Light, which features the Parade of Light.
Fort Myers is also the spring training home of the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox baseball teams.

Ft. Myers is home to nine higher learning institutions as well as nationally ranked public schools. It is part of Lee County, which is the ninth largest school district in the state and the nation’s 40th largest school district.

Ft. Myers is a popular destination for golfers with the Eastwood Golf Course owned and operated by the city of Ft. Myers. Eastwood is over 150 acres long and offers a sister golf course, Fort Myers County Club. People have been playing at this club since 1917 and it offers equally as stunning holes as Eastwood.
