Aventura is one of Miami-Dade’s most recent incorporated cities. It is a planned, suburban city of Miami. Developed in the 1970’s and 1980’s when the city was still mostly swamplands, this city’s name means “adventure” in Spanish.

Aventura is primarily an upscale condominium and apartment community. Many of these homes are located on the Intercostal Waterway, which provides scenic views for their residents.

This city is located just 20 minutes from both metropolitan Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. It is a mere one mile west from some of South Florida’s most popular beach destinations. Close by, one can also find the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport.

Since incorporating in 1995, the City of Aventura has spent millions on improving the infrastructure such as lighting, streets, drainage, and pedestrian safety. They have developed beautiful parks, including a dog park, and a Liberal Arts theater. Additionally, the city created a community and recreation center, a government center and the Aventura City of Excellence School, an award winning Charter school.

Aventura’s economy is based mainly on the many shopping centers located around the city. The Aventura Mall is one of the top shopping spots in South Florida and incredibly popular among the international crowd. The mall is anchored by many luxury shops, dining options and a movie theater. The surrounding area includes Loehmann’s Island, Shoppes at Waterways (an outdoor mall), and more, so there is something for everyone. The area is also filled with upscale dining of American and international cuisine.
